all class descriptions

ballet

Ballet is the basis of all dance. This classical dance form uses grace, strength, and balance to create flowing movement. The technique a dancer learns from this class carries over to all dance forms.

jazz

“West Side Story” helped pave the way for what we know today as jazz dance. Many styles of this dance form exist and are influenced by many styles of music, including jazz, rock, pop, and hip hop. Jazz is a high-energy class that will get your blood pumping.

tap

Tap was born from the Irish jig and clogging. Shoes with metal taps are worn to create sounds of rhythm. “Theatrical” or “Broadway” tap is the style of tap performed in musicals such as “42ndStreet.” “Rhythmic” tap is a street style that is less flashy and uses more intricate rhythms. Both styles are taught in this class.

contemporary

Contemporary dance borrows from jazz, ballet, funk, social and modern dance styles of the 20th century.  Contemporary dance encourages, natural, spontaneous movement and personal interpretation.   Our jazz classes also incorporate contemporary dance, it is highly recommended that dancers have previous experience in jazz and/or ballet.

hip hop

Born on the streets of New York and Los Angeles, hip hop has become a part of American culture. From pop and lock to break dancing, it is a true modern American art form. Free style and improvisation are part of this dance style and are explored in this class.

tumbling

Our tumbling class focuses on the basic skills of balance, strength, and stretch. Acrobatic skills are taught and learned on mats and no apparatus is used.

private music and voice lessons

We will again be offering private instruction in piano, voice, and string instruments (guitar instructor coming soon). Thirty-minute lessons are held in the private studios upstairs. Students must be in first grade to take piano lessons. Third graders and older may take guitar. Fourth grade and older may register for Voice lessons.

rock the mic class

New at BPA, let your voice be heard, as you “Rock the Mic!”. Whether you’re a pop princess, Broadway star, singer song-writer, total diva, or just love to sing, this is the perfect class for you to learn how to take your skills to the next level.
Throughout the year each singer will get the opportunity to select two solo songs of their choosing, specifically in line to fit their own individual style. Our singers will get to show off their skills as they “Rock the Mic” at the winter and Spring Music Showcase. Additionally, our stand-out solo singers, will combine to make a “SuperGroup” as they take to the stage at the Bender End of the Year Recital, as the “BPA Rock the Mic Singers” where hundreds will get to witness their chops as they perform a knock out group number, complete with choreography, harmonies, costumes, makeup, and power vocals!
So whether you are preparing for an audition for a choir or performance group at school, trying out for a talent show, prepping for a National T.V. singing competition, already a gigging musician and shooting for superstardom…. Or just love to sing, join the “BPA Rock the Mic Singers” and learn to perform like a pro!

musical theatre

In our musical theatre class, students become a triple threat – learning auditioning techniques for singing, acting, and dancing. All three skills are fine tuned as students learn songs, scenes and choreography from Broadway shows.
