My child wants to join Dance Motion.
…does she/he become a member?
Dancers become members of Dance Motion by being chosen through an audition process. Auditions are held once a year. This year they are scheduled for Friday, June 2nd. During the audition, the students will be demonstrating their skills in ballet, jazz, and tap. It is strongly recommended that they have taken lessons in all three forms of dance before going through the audition process. Dancers need to show up 15 minutes prior to the audition to fill out information.
All who auditioned will receive results of their auditions by email the day after our recital. Those who have been invited to the second part of the audition will receive an email on Sunday, June 11th and their names will also be posted on the door of the studio. The second part of the audition process is mandatory attendance in summer school at Bender Performing Arts, which runs June 12th – June 30th, 2017 (it is possible to work around vacations during these weeks). Both audition components must be successfully met in order to join the company.
…many classes will she/he have to take if they are invited to join the company?
Dance Motion members take 5-10 hours of class a week, with the older dancers attending more than the younger. Though they are taking several hours of dance instruction, it entails being at the studio typically only 3-4 days a week.
…much does it cost?
As stated above, company members take between 5 – 10 hours of dance class per week. At this time, our tuition range for this amount of hours is $240.00 to $355.00 per month. Dance Motion annually produces a holiday ballet and a spring show and they generally compete in 2-3 dance competitions a year. There are costume and competition fees required for these. In an effort to make the financial aspect of having a company dancer easier, the fees are broken down into monthly payments. Generally, costume and competition fees will range from $950 – $1500 per year.
…should we prepare for the audition?
Plan to wear dance clothes to the audition. No street clothes are allowed in the audition room. The audition starts with ballet, then jazz, and ends with tap combinations. The students are taught a short routine, and then they perform the routine with several other dancers before the judges. The judges are observing both their technique and their ability to learn and repeat dance steps quickly and confidently.
