My child wants to join DanceMotion!
…does she/he become a member?
Dancers become members of DanceMotion through an audition process. Auditions are held once a year. This year they are scheduled for Saturday, May 22nd. During the audition, students will demonstrate their skills in ballet, jazz, and tap. It is recommended that they have taken lessons in all three forms of dance before going through the audition process. Dancers must show up 15 minutes early to complete an information form.
All who audition will receive their results on Sunday, June 13th, and those who have been invited to the second part of the audition will also have their names posted on the front door of the studio. The second part of the audition process is mandatory summer school attendance at Bender Performing Arts which runs June 14th-July 1st. It is possible to work around vacations during these weeks. Both audition components must be successfully completed in order to join the company.
…many classes will she/he be required to take if invited to join?
DanceMotion members take 5-10 hours of class a week with older dancers attending more than younger students. This typically entails being at the studio 3-4 days a week.
…much does it cost?
As stated above, members take 5-10 hours of class a week. At this time, our tuition range for that number of hours is $279-$429 per month. DanceMotion produces both a holiday ballet and spring show annually, and members participate in 2-3 competitions each year. In an effort to make the financial aspect of having a company dancer easier, the costume and competition fees required for these activities are broken down into monthly payments. Generally, costume and competition fees will range from $950-$1500 per year.
…should we prepare for the audition?
Plan to wear dance clothes to the audition as no street clothes are allowed. The audition starts with ballet, then jazz and ends with tap. The students are taught short routines which they will perform in small groups before a panel of judges. The judges are observing both their technique and their ability to learn and perform dance steps quickly and confidently.
