What is Jazz Dance?

Jazz isn’t just a dance style — it’s a full-blown burst of energy, expression, and excitement. With their dynamic moves and infectious beats, jazz dance classes cultivate a strong foundation in dance technique while celebrating self-expression and individuality.

Jazz incorporates many of the same techniques and basics as classical ballet, and students learn styles of turns, jumps, and leaps set to popular and upbeat music. From Broadway to music videos, jazz dance has left its mark on the world of entertainment, making it the perfect foundation style for dancers who want to shine in any spotlight.

Fundamentals of Jazz Dancing

Building Blocks for a Strong Future

Dance and music teach life lessons that help children as they grow and develop into adults. Learning teamwork, flexibility (physical, mental, and emotional), and determination are incredibly strong foundations that a healthy adult can stand on. Children also learn accountability and responsibility to themselves and those around them, which can give them a deeper sense of community and self-awareness as they age.

Understanding of the Basics

Students will learn the essential steps, turns, and kicks that define jazz dancing. From sassy shimmies to gravity-defying leaps, your child will become fluent in the language of jazz dance. At Bender Performing Arts, we start jazz dance classes by teaching

  • Jazz square
